The world is on fire
Ashes crumbling
Children stumbling
Still, we waste all the water
It would take to put it out
We've to get out of the woods
Quick, before they've all burned down
We can save ourselves
Into air-conditioned homes
While others have to sweat it out on the street
All alone
Most eyes wander past the
Half-empty cup, filled with loose change
And the scrap of cardboard that they call their own
Every night after dinner
That the child never finished
The parents tuck it into its warm bed
When it asks
Why the man in the city looked so sad
Without wasting a breath, they both say:
"Little one, just close, close your eyes
The night might be young
But nothing you would like
As long as you, you'll be fine
Little one, just close your eyes
Just close your eyes!"
Every night after dinner
That the child never finished
It puts on the pyjama
Made by one of its peers
It turns around to ask its parents
Why it's all the way from Bangladesh
Without wasting a breath, they both say:
"Little one, just close, close your eyes
The night might be young
But nothing you would like
As long as you, you'll be fine
Little one, just close your eyes
Just close your eyes!"
Then one night during dinner
That the child almost finished
It finally starts to listen to the news:
People starving, children crying
Fighting wars they'll have to die in
Being sent around Europe
With no place to go
Women trying to rise to the top
Running a marathon
While men only have to walk
"Open up your eyes!
Open up your eyes!
ALL people are people
No matter what
Your skin colour
Or who you love
Open up your eyes!
Open up your eyes!
Open up your eyes!
Open up your eyes!
Open up your eyes!
Open up your eyes!"
