Sophomore year of high school
All we needed was a break
Disappear for a decade or so
Someone tell us it's fine
Someone say we'll be alright
All we wanted was to get on the train and go
And we'd talk all of lunch 'bout our Idaho farm
The North Pole and China and trip to the stars
The swim to Hawaii
The walk to the Rockies
Away from wherever we are
Our short time in London
Our New York apartment
Our day dreams and homework and love were abundant
Escape from this hell that we're feeling right now
And get out get out get out of our little hometown
I don't know if that was
What the problem really was 'cause
High school might just be built to break
But if class was too much that week we'd
Get on a Greyhound in our sleep
And that idea briefly healed the ache
And we'd talk all of lunch 'bout our Idaho farm
The North Pole and China and trip to the stars
The swim to Hawaii
The walk to the Rockies
Away from wherever we are
Our short time in London
Our New York apartment
Our day dreams and homework and love were abundant
Escape from this hell that we're feeling right now
And get out get out get out of our little hometown
We've all left now but there's this
Sense that all the dreams still fit
And kids aren't given any credit for how deeply they feel
Friends, dreams, work, anger, love
Turns out you don't age out of
Our plan for the idaho farm still feels real
It still feels real
