The dark of night calls out to me and mocks my view of history
I wonder what it might feel to be someone who sees the Light
The dreams of millions fade away in pain and fear again today
Just like their dead ancestors prayed, prayed to see the Light
The road to glory, pride and wealth is very hard without help
Where selfish greed gives way to stealth, they'll never see the Light
Cynicism rules today but the next war is Green they say
Whoever wins, it's us who'll pay, unless we see the Light
Where is the Light giving hope in the night
All I can see is darkness everywhere
Where is the Light within our own eyes
All I can see is darkness and despair
The dark of night calls out to me, I leave my house at last I'm free
To disappear beyond the trees and never face the Light
The silence of the night is broken by an owl who knows I've spoken
Even birds recognise a gun and fly away in fright
Where is the Light giving hope in the night
All I can see is darkness everywhere
Where is the Light within our own eyes
All I can see is darkness and despair
Is that the Light in front of me or is that God hung on a tree
Or is it just a myth we see to stop us seeing the Light
Or am I in a mortuary, a victim of democracy
Or should we call it hypocrisy cos I'll never see the Light
I'll never see the Light, I'll never see the Light
