Waiting for a ride I was biding my time
Could see that you were waiting at the end of the lunch line
End of the day had empty pockets
Back of the car had a written sonnet
Some were up ahead
Some were keeping up
Some were running behind
Some had hands on ears
Some were reaching out
Some were covering eyes
And all I could think to say is another way to say I wasn't here today
Instead I was miles away I was floating on by
It was opposite day
While I was out on a little excursion
I wrote you a letter in illiterate cursive
Rested on it buried it under my mattress
Pulled it out to see that I was writing it backwards
Turned it to a paper plane to see if it could fly
Threw it out the window and I wished it goodbye
Who knows who would ever catch it
Who knows you could just deflect it
When it was overhead
Some were looking up
Some were covering eyes
Some had hands on ears
Some were reaching out
Some were running behind
Churlish, unseen
Wrestled with my dreams
Early in the day
We pooled up all our change
Then once it got late
We stood by the interstate
Went from walking dogs
To rasslin' with the hogs
Went from throwing rocks
To running from the cops
Some were up ahead
Some were keeping up
Some were running behind
Some had hands on knees
Some were reaching out
Some were touching the sky
And all I could think to say is another way to say I wasn't here today
Instead I was miles away I was floating on by
It was opposite day
