When he awoke he was in a daze
And he was living at center stage
Eyes peering from behind the glass
They paid good money for an unlimited pass
Lion, lion in a cage
The lion tamer he was feeling at home
Watching the meat slide off of the bone
He had the best of intentions you see
So don't you go telling him of complicity
Lion, lion in a cage
The owner he was living comfortably
He said "I saved his life and fortunately
He gets a home and I get my pay
I got myself a future and he gets three meals a day"
Lion, lion in a cage
But the lion he was insufficiently tamed
The tranquilizer gun was ready and aimed
Hands were shaking and the shot went wide
The tamer couldn't make it he was swallowed by the pride of
Lion in a cage
And when they finally came to put him down
Without another living soul around
Pointing their fingers and assigning blame
Another innocent just got a bullet in the brain
Lion, lion in a cage
