Last night I took a ride, down that ol' backroad,
Rumors 'bout the shadows, how the moon it glowed,
Whispers in the pine trees, they called my name so clear,
Knew I had to face my fears, the devil was near.
Fog wrapped 'round my tires, as I drove further in,
Eyes that burned like coals, from a dark old sin,
Saw a figure standin' there, where the paths all meet,
Offered me a handshake, whispered secrets at my feet.
At the crossroads at midnight, where your heart meets your soul,
You can make a deal, but you'll pay the toll,
Voices in the wind spoke of heaven and of hell,
Down that haunted backroad, where the spirits dwell.
Tires skidded to a stop, on gravel 'neath the moon,
The silhouette approached, singing a mournful tune,
Could feel the chill inside me, in the dead, dark air,
Stranger held his hat, his eyes a devil's stare.
He said, "Boy, you want your dreams, you must pay the fee,
Your soul for a taste of fame and all you wish to be."
I shook my head and wondered, is it worth the night,
To give away my soul for a future bright?
I felt the weight of twilight pressin' on my bones,
The echoes of the night sang out a thousand moans,
Turned my back on lust, spoke a silent prayer,
Left that haunted backroad, with the devil's glare.
At the crossroads at midnight, where your heart meets your soul,
You can make a deal, but you'll pay the toll,
Voices in the wind spoke of heaven and of hell,
Down that haunted backroad, where the spirits dwell.
