Cocolarosa - Shoulders of Giants Lyrics

Cocolarosa - Shoulders of Giants Lyrics

Once we had a choice but now that choice has been taken away
By the shadow of the giant on whose shoulders we now sway
We've built us a Colossus once that can rival even Rhodes
But it's foundation is built in bone
From the ruins of the Garden of Eden
Where now the heathens have made their home
To the plains of the old Etruscan kings
Where the She-Wolf had raised up Rome
What they see is a horn of plenty
But what they're getting is another dust bowl
In our rush to defeat the red menace
We sold the capitalists our souls
And we've been blind in the summer by splendor
And in the winter all we fear is the cold
In the sky all we see is diamonds
And riches yet untold

But unlike those that went before us
We can't let ignorance be our crutch
For we're cursed by what we know and we know too much
You can blind your eyes, plug years, and cut out your tongue
You can turn away if it's all too much

For in our mind they seek to divide us
To drive a wedge in between our souls
They ask you 'What Are You, Are You Red or Blue'
And then expect you to stick to your own
While in the field there grew Santeria
A change of name to remember home
In a land where they scream about freedom
Where human beings are bought and sold
And now you have the right to remain silent
And go broke when you get ill
You got a right to choose between two old fools
And the cops got the right to kill
And if you've got the mind to say it ain't OK
You try and challenge the status quo
If you start to dig they'll call you facist pig
And tell you 'Leave Well Enough Alone'

To those of you who run the show
You oughta know
We don't give a f*ck
You've had your day and now your day is up
For you can't go over it, can't go round it, can't go beneath
What the future holds we're all gonna see

They said the first to come would be the fires and floods
The typhoons and hurricanes
They said if the methane were lost from the permafrost
That'd be a whole 'nother game
They said the fiscal cost would be such a loss
We'd never recover from that financial blow
They spread lies and deceit from their f*cking teeth
And outta be held accountable
They been padding their pockets and ivory offices
And who's left to pay the toll ?
This American Dream now ripe with disease
You got shooters in your high school halls
Privatize your physicians and your prison systems
Incentivize keeping man low
If you dealt out of love you'd be building them up
But that ain't profitable
It's the same old whore that we've known as Babylon
Though my faith in man is shaken it ain't gone
The kings have failed us and now the burden it falls to the pawns
Though my faith in man is shaken it ain't gone
