A Rumor in St. Petersburg
by Jonathan Dokuchitz and Kelsey Grammer

[ Featuring Kelsey Grammer ]

St. Petersburg is gloomy
St. Petersburg is bleak

My underwear got frozen standing here all week
Oh, since the revolution our lives have been so gray
Thank goodness for the gossip that gets us through the day
Hey!

Have you heard
There's a rumor in St. Petersburg?
Have you heard
What they're saying on the street?
Although the Czar did not survive
One daughter may be still alive
The Princess Anastasia!

But please do not repeat!

It's a rumor,
A legend,
A mystery!
Something whispered in an alleyway
Or through a crakc!
It's a rumour
That's part of our history.

They say her royal grand mama
Wil pay a royal sum

To someone who can bring the princess back
A ruble for this painting!
It's Romanov, I swear!

Count Yusopov's pajamas
Comrade, buy the pair
I got this from the palace
It's lined with real fur!

It could be worth a fortune
If it belonged to her!
It's the rumor,
The legend,
The mystery!
It's the Princess Anastasia who will help us fly
You and I friend
Will go down
In history!
We'll find a girl to play the part and teach her what to say
Dress her up and take her to Paree!
Imagine the reward her dear old Grandmama will pay
Who else could pull it off but you and me?
We'll be rich

We'll be rich
We'll be out
We'll be out

And St. Petersburg will have some more to talk about

SSH!
Have you heard
There's a rumor in St. Petersburg?
Have you heard
What they're saying on the street?
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Have you heard
There's a rumor in St. Petersburg
Have you heard

Comrade, what do you suppose?
A fascinating mystery
The biggest con in history

The Princess Anastasia,
Alive or dead
Who knows?

Journey To The Past
by Liz Callaway

Heart, don't fail me now!
Courage, don't desert me!
Don't turn back now that we're here.
People always say
Life is full of choices.
No one ever mentions fear!
Or how the world can seem so vast
On a journey ... to the past.
Somewhere down this road
I know someone's waiting
Years of dreams just can't be wrong!
Arms will open wide.
I'll be safe and wanted
Fin'lly home where I belong.
Well, starting now, I'm learning fast
On this journey to the past Home, Love, Family.
There was once a time
I must have had them, too.
Home, Love, Family,
I will never be complete
Until I find you...
One step at a time,
One hope, then another,
Who knows where this road may go
Back to who I was,
On to find my future.
Things my heart still needs to know.
Yes, let this be a sign!
Let this road be mine!
Let it lead me to my past
And bring me home...
At last!

Once Upon A December
by Liz Callaway

Dancing bears,
Painted wings,
Things I almost remember,
And a song someone sings,
Once upon a December.
Someone holds me safe and warm,
Horses prance through a silver storm,
Figures dancing gracefully across my memory

Someone holds me safe and warm,
Horses prance through a silver storm,
Figures dancing gracefully across my memory.

Far away,
Long ago,
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart used to know,
Things it yearns to remember
And a song someone sings

Once upon a December

In the Dark of the Night
by Jim Cummings

In the dark of the night I was tossing and turning
And the nightmare I had was as bad as can be
It scared me out of my wits
A corpse falling to bits!
Then I opened my eyes
And the nightmare was, me

I was once the most mystical man in all Russia
When the royals betrayed me they mad a mistake
My curse made each of them pay
But one little girl got away
Little Anya, beware
Rasputin's awake

In the dark of the night evil will find her
In the dark of the night just before dawn!

Revenge will be sweet
When the curse is complete
In the dark of the night

She'll be gone
I can feel that my powers are slowly returning
Tie my sash and a dash of cologne for that smell
As the Pieces fall into place
I'll see her crawl into place
Do Svidaniya, Anya, Your Grace
Farewell

In the dark of the night terror will strike her!
Terror's the least I can do!
In the dark of the night evil will brew.

Soon she will feel that her nightmares are real.
In the dark of the night
She'll be through!

In the dark of the night
Evil will find her
Find her!
Ooh!
In the dark of the night terror comes true.
Doom her!

My dear, here's a sign
It's the end of the line

In the dark of the night
In the dark of the night
In the dark of the night

Come my minions
Rise for your master
Let your evil shine
Find her now
Yes, fly ever faster

In the dark of the night
In the dark of the night
In the dark of the night
She'll be mine!

Learn to Do It
by Jonathan Dokuchitz

[ Featuring Kelsey Grammer, Liz Callaway ]

[VLADIMIR]
You were born in a palace by the sea.

[ANASTASIA]
A palace by the sea?
Could it be?

[VLADIMIR]
Yes, that's right.
You rode horseback when you were only three.

[ANASTASIA]
Horseback riding? Me?

[VLADIMIR]
And the horse...

[DIMITRI]
He was white!

[VLADIMIR]
You made faces and terrorized the cook!

[DIMITRI]
Threw him in the brook!

[ANASTASIA]
Was I wild?

[DIMITRI]
Wrote the book!

[VLADIMIR]
But you'd behave when your father gave that look!

[DIMITRI]
Imagine how it was!

[VLADIMIR]
Your long-forgotten past!

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
We've lots and lots to teach you and the time is gonig fast!

[ANASTASIA]
All right...I'm ready!

[VLADIMIR]
Now, shoulders back and stand up tall

[DIMITRI]
And do not walk, but try to float.

[ANASTASIA]
I feel a little foolish.
Am I floating?

[VLADIMIR]
Like a little boat!

[DIMITRI]
You give a bow.

[ANASTASIA]
What happens now?

[VLADIMIR]
Your hand receives a kiss!

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
Most of all remember this:

[VLADIMIR]
If I can learn to do it, you can learn to do it.

[DIMITRI]
Something in you knows it --

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
There's nothing to it!

[VLADIMIR]
Follow in my footsteps, shoe by shoe!

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
You can learn to do it too!

[VLADIMIR]
Now, elbows in and sit up straight

[DIMITRI]
And never slurp the stroganoff.

[ANASTASIA]
I never cared for stroganoff!

[VLADIMIR]
She said that like a Romanov!

[DIMITRI]
The Samovar.

[VLADIMIR]
The caviar.

[ANASTASIA]
Dessert and then goodnight?

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
Not until you get this right!

[VLADIMIR]
If I can learn to do it

[DIMITRI]
If he can learn to do it

[VLADIMIR]
You can learn to do it!

[DIMITRI]
You can learn to do it

[VLADIMIR]
Pull yourself together

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
And you'll pull through it!

[VLADIMIR]
Tell yourself it's easy

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
And it's true!
You can learn to do it too!

[VLADIMIR]
Next, you must memorize the names of the royalty.
Now here we have Kropotkin

[DIMITRI]
Shot Potemkin

[VLADIMIR]
In the Botkin.

[ANASTASIA]
Oh!

[VLADIMIR]
And dear old uncle Vanya loved his vodka

[DIMITRI
Got it Anya?

[ANASTASIA]
No!

[VLADIMIR]
The Baron Pushkin

[ANASTASIA
He was...?

[DIMITRI]
Short!

[VLADIMIR]
Count Anatoly

[ANASTASIA]
Had a... ?

[DIMITRI]
Wart!

[VLADIMIR]
Count Sergei

[DIMITRI]
Wore a feathered hat.

[VLADIMIR]
I hear he's gotten very fat.

[ANASTASIA]
And I recall his yellow cat!

[VLADIMIR]
I don't believe we told her that.

[ANASTASIA]
If you can learn to do it,
I can learn to do it!

[VLADIMIR]
Don't know how you knew it

[ANASTASIA]
I simply knew it!
Suddenly I feel like someone new...

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
Anya, you're a dream come true!

If I can learn to do it,

[ANASTASIA]
If I can learn to do it

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
You can learn to do it!

[ANASTASIA]
You can learn to do it.

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
Pull yourself together

[ALL THREE]
And you'll pull through it!

[VLADIMIR]
Tell yourself it's easy,

[ALL THREE]
And it's true --

[VLADIMIR AND DIMITRI]
You can learn to do it,

[ANASTASIA]
Nothing to it!

[ALL THREE]
You can learn to do it too!

Learn to Do It (Waltz Reprise)
by Jonathan Dokuchitz

[ Featuring Kelsey Grammer, Liz Callaway ]

[VLADIMIR]
It's one-two-three and suddenly
I see it at a glance --

She's radiant
And confident and born to take this chance.

I taught her well.
I planned it all!
I just forgot...
Romance!

Vlad, how could you do this?
How will we get through this?
I never should have let them dance!

At The Beginning
by Richard Marx

[ Featuring Donna Lewis ]

We were strangers, starting out on a journey
Never dreaming, what we'd have to go through
Now here we are, I'm suddenly standing
At the beginning with you

No one told me I was going to find you
Unexpected, what you did to my heart
When I lost hope, you were there to remind me
This is the start

[Chorus:]
And life is a road that I wanna keep going
Love is a river, I wanna keep flowing
Life is a road, now and forever, wonderful journey
I'll be there when the world stops turning
I'll be there when the storm is through
In the end I wanna be standing
At the beginning with you

We were strangers, on a crazy adventure
Never dreaming, how our dreams would come true
Now here we stand, unafraid of the future
At the beginning with you

[Chorus]

Knew there was somebody, somewhere
A new love in the dark
Now I know my dream will live on
I've been waiting so long
Nothing's gonna tear us apart

[Chorus]

In the end I want to be standing
At the beginning with you...

Viaje Tiempo Atras (Journey to the Past)
by Thalia

Anda, vamos ya,
¡Corazón no temas!
No te vas a detener.
Me parece que tengo mil opciones
No se a quién volvere a ver.
O que tan lejos llegaré
En un viaje tiempo atrás.

En algun lugar alguien me recuerda
Seuño que sera verdad
Me recibirán con gran bienvenida
Finalmente sin maldad
Y...desde ahora aprenderás
En un viaje...tiempo atrás

Con mi...Familia
Se que alguna vez tambien estueve yo
A mis padres
Con amor los buscaré hasta encontrarlos

Paso a paso y sembrando mi esperanza
No se en donde iré a parar
Voy a un lugar a formar mi vida
Cien misterios aclarar
¡Si! Ésta es mi señal
¡Hoy he de volver!
A reunirme con mi paz
Y ver por fin...mi hogar...

Back to: Anastasia

Anastasia is a 1997 American animated musical historical fantasy film produced and directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman from a screenplay by the writing teams of Susan Gauthier and Bruce Graham, and Bob Tzudiker and Noni White, and based on a story adaptation by Eric Tuchman. It features songs written by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens and a musical score composed and conducted by David Newman. The film stars the voices of Meg Ryan, John Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Christopher Lloyd, Hank Azaria, Bernadette Peters, Kirsten Dunst, and Angela Lansbury. The film shares its plot with the 1956 film Anastasia, which in turn was based on a play by Marcelle Maurette. Unlike those treatments, this version adds Grigori Rasputin as the main antagonist.

Anastasia was the first 20th Century Fox animated feature to be produced by its own animation division, 20th Century Fox Animation, through its subsidiary Fox Animation Studios. The film premiered at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City on November 14, 1997, and was released in the United States on November 21. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the animation, voice performances, and soundtrack, though it attracted criticism from some historians for its fantastical retelling of the Grand Duchess. Anastasia grossed $140 million worldwide, making it the most profitable film from Bluth and Fox Animation Studios. It received nominations for several awards, including for Best Original Song ("Journey to the Past") and Best Original Musical or Comedy Score at the 70th Academy Awards.
