Rebecca Turner - Free the Rose Lyrics

April and the snow decided to melt
We're outside now, despite the chill we felt
A little fleck of worry and the sun comes and goes
Move aside the wet leaves, I'm gonna free the rose
Been Rip Van Winklin' forever now
We've arrived at this juncture, I've no idea how
By no means perfect, but today's not bad
I'm gonna free the rose, you can bet on that

Someone brought it with the best intentions, during a trying time
It got transplanted with low expectations
Late last summer, it looked to have died

But brushy tan leaves are strangling the base
An innocent lilac's all up in its face
The grapevine's encroaching like it always does
Coming in from the side and down from above

So, toss me my clogs and my red kneeling pad
The old pruning shears that belonged to my dad
I'm not stopping 'til I see dirt
I'm gonna free the rose and I hope it doesn't hurt

Just one stalk and thin as a wire
10 inches high and not getting higher
Basically brown with some patches of green
And a few little bumps that might become leaves

So, pull over the trash and hand me my gloves
And let's try to be more patient, my love
Things will bust open when I free the rose
We'll get out of the way and then who the hell knows?
